Patched Works is a full service quilt shop located 10 miles west of downtown Milwaukee.

Patched Works is the self proclaimed “quilt shop destination in Southeastern Wisconsin.” We carry over 8,000 bolts of 100% cotton fabric including a large array of batiks, a full color wall, all 303 Kona Solids and many popular designer fabrics.  We have over 1,000 bolts value priced every day in our sale area to cater to all shoppers.

Our club offerings draw regular members from nearby to over 100 miles away. Our largest club, MODA University, originated with a manufacturer program and now continues with our own original content.

We create new quilt samples monthly and constantly rotate the store to create new experiences for even our weekly customers. We are fortunate to host national designer trunk shows among our own quilt samples providing additional inspiration for our customers.

Our staff strives to create a fun and inspiring experience for our customers.

History:

The shop was founded in the 1970’s by Trudie Hughes. The shop started in her home and then moved to several retail locations around Elm Grove until it found itself at it’s current location in the 1980’s. Trudie helped revolutionize the quilting scene being a pioneer in rotary cutting methods.  In spring 2006, Trudie decided it was time to retire. She put the shop up for sale and within 3 quick months, Julie and Frank Karasek became  proud owners of Patched Works, continuing the tradition of quilting in Southeastern Wisconsin.

We continue to manufacture and sell Trudie’s Big Daddy, Big Mama, Rotary Rule and Rotary Mate acrylic rulers.

Owners:

Julie Karasek

Julie began sewing at a young age. In high school she stitched costumes and dresses for dances. Always trying new needle crafts, she started quilting after college. While early career ambition took her into the corporate world, she took a leap into quilt shop ownership when Trudie retired.

Frank Karasek

Frank worked over 20 years as a commercial electrician. When Frank and Julie decided run Patched Works he decided to trade in his tool belt to help Julie with a dream. In addition to making sure the shop stays in tip top shape, you can find him managing the Notion, Book and Pattern department wearing one of his signature Harley t-shirts.

Together with over a dozen Quiltie Ladies, Frank and Julie operate Patched Works seven days a week. We carry thousands of carefully selected fine quality quilting fabrics for the discerning quilter and sewist. We offer a variety of classes and clubs for our local customers. We offer onsite long arm quilting services by our skilled long arm quilters at competitive prices using three Statler Stitchers.
